Born in 1941, artist, author, sailing globetrotter and much more. Heidi Trautmann has lived in North Cyprus for 25 years now. She is known as a leader and supporter in the arts and cultural scene of North Cyprus. We were invited for an interview at her home in Girne.
What fireworks of authenticity! And that at the age of 81. We would have loved to have listened to her artistic stories all night long. Heidi Trautmann, a mixture flows through your veins: The art of colours, words, music and traveling all over the world. Everything about her seems real, because everything she thinks about, she puts into practice. Whether it's the construction of her own sailing boat "Early Bird", with which she sailed the world's oceans with her great love for over 6 years, or the local artist scene in Northern Cyprus, which was not discovered and promoted until her appearance. No thought of ideas remains hidden from her. "Doesn't exist - doesn't exist, you just have to want to find it.
Her work over the past 25 years on the island has not only greatly influenced and promoted local artists. She has also helped to introduce and detail local artists to foreign residents. She is a member of the Art Association and runs her own group of artists, "The Thursday Artists". She founded associations and communities in which art and culture could be presented and exchanged. She has also written three books about her different passions. She is currently writing her fourth book, her biography, the manuscript of which we were able to marvel at on your dining room table. She has also published other art catalogs and written for English language newspapers. A total of three hours of interview flew by. It was no wonder, with a person who was allowed to experience so much. Heidi Trautmann is a thoroughly inspired person who is not afraid of life, her own ideas and constant change. It is rich and fills the last pore of one's own spirit. She discovered her home base in "Northern Cyprus" 25 years ago with her sailing boat when she anchored in the harbor in front of Girne.Both you and your husband quickly agreed - this place, the indescribable light and the warmth of the people here - this should be the place where you want to settle after six years on the boat.
